Postdoctoral Research Associate Position

A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Wang lab. Our lab specializes in structural biology and drug discovery for neurodegeneration and cancer. We focus on the critical interactions between heparan sulfate and key proteins, such as amyloid-beta peptide, tau, ApoE and others, all of which have proven links to Alzheimer’s disease in human genetics. In cancer, we explore the roles of p53 and Hedgehog signaling, aiming to convert our findings into therapeutic breakthroughs.

Solution NMR is the major structural biology tool used in the lab. The NMR facility in the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) houses Bruker AVANCE 800 MHz and 600 MHz high performance digital NMR spectrometers. Both spectrometers are equipped with TXI triple resonance probes and TCI cryoprobes which have both cold proton and carbon channels. Both spectrometers are equipped for four channel operations and with 24-sample changers for drug screening. There is an additional 600 MHz wide-bore Bruker NMR spectrometer with dual solution and solid-state capability, equipped with a triple resonance CPMAS probe and a high resolution TXI probe. An Xtreme-60 high pressure system (Daedalus Innovations, LLC) can be utilized with any of three magnets, covering pressure up to 3 kbar.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), founded in 1824, is the nation’s oldest technological university. RPI offers highly competitive benefits and is ranked #2 Best Private Sector Employer in the Capital Region of the New York State. The Capital Region offers many cultural and outdoor attractions such as Adirondacks and Berkshires. Boston, New York, and Montreal are only a few hours away by car. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer. Members of underrepresented groups including people of color, or with disabilities, and women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

Eligibility for appointment as a postdoctoral research associate requires a Ph.D. in any relevant area with solid training in NMR, or in glycobiology, or in biophysics of protein interaction (e.g. in SPR), or in computational biology, or in protein expression and purificationi, or in mammalian cell culture, or in any relevant field. Experience with NMR drug discovery and/or computational biology is a plus. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be offered a one-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.

Please e-mail (wangc5@rpi.edu) a cover letter, a CV with a list of publications to Professor Chunyu Wang to initiate the application process. Review of applications will begin as soon as they are received.
